Bilaspur Himachal

Himachal Pradesh, a place of lords is blessed with all the resplendent scenery around itself. Bilaspur is a small district which is situated in Satluj valley in the outer hills. Its boundaries touch Una, Hamirpur, Mandi and Solan districts of Himachal Pradesh. This beautiful district is altogether glorified with Satluj River which passes through the middle of the district and divides it into almost equal parts.

The new Township Bilaspur is also considered as the first planned hill town of the country. This small township has people from all the major religions be it Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism but, united in all. The native spoken languages are Kahluri or Bilaspuri, apart from Hindi. Agriculture and tertiary sector jobs are the main source of income for its people. Like all other parts of India celebrating festivals from all the corners of the nation, Bilaspur too is not different from others; rather it adds and shares its traditional festivals like Haryali and Sair. Bilaspur comes up with sundry fairs which add to the festive mood of its people all year around. Nalwari fair, Navratri fair, Baisakhi fair, Shaltali fair to name a few.

Adventure sports are also the other mirror of Bilaspur which acquaints you to paragliding, hang gliding, swimming, surfing, water-skiing, kayaking, rowing, canoeing and white water river rafting. . During August to January, water sports are played due to oscillating level of water. Bilaspur has lot of fascinating sites to see and number of festivals, fairs, and sports are celebrated here. Vestiges of history are still alive in its lap. Fort Kotkahlur, Fort of Sariun, Fort of Bacchretu, Fort of Bahadurpur, Fort of Tiun, Thakurdwara of Auhar, and Thakurdwara of Sunhani are all historical sites worth seeing.

Other places of interest include the famous Bhakra Dam, Gobind Sagar Lake, New Bilaspur town, Deoli fish farm, Keol Dam, Namhol, and Swarghat. Bliaspur also has its share of religious sites. The famous Sri Naina Devi Ji, Baba Bangali, Vyas Gufa, Baba Balak Nath Ji(Shatalai), Baba Basandhi, Guru Ka Lahore, Hari Devi, Laxmi Narayan Mandir, Markandeye Ji, Nahar Singh Dhaulara, Naras Devi, Shivalaya Bachhretu, and Shitla Mandir Jangla are not to be missed.
